Manchester City v Chelsea: It was a fake result
No, I am not talking about the fact that Chelsea were the dominant team in the second half. For the record, Chelsea were the better side for about 30 minutes of the second half, or at least the more attacking side, but they were bound to be dominant for parts of the game, they are Champions after all.
And I am not really suggesting that the results was fake or unjust. Manchester City were by far the better side on the day and worthy of there 3-0 win. However, what I am saying is that 3-0 to Manchester City is possibly a 'fake' reflection of the gulf in class between the two teams.
Chelsea have started the reason poorly and Manchester City have started it very well. However, Manchester City's only real addition to their squad has been Raheem Sterling and he was in no way the full reason for Mannchester City's win. The reason for their win was the resurgence of Yaya Toure & Vincent Kompany combined with the lacklustre performances of Chelsea's defenders, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, the two that made the difference for Chelsea last season.
Many said that Eden Hazard went missing, personally I thought he looked like he was the only player could do something to get Chelsea out of the hole they were in. He should have scored his chance but he was the only player to really find himself with a decent chance.
While Mourinho's tactics were questionable, it seems obvious that Ramires should have been moved centrally, with Willian going wide and Fabregas moving forward, and the substitution of Terry a strange one (I would have subbed off Cahill) The game was ultimately won buy the Manchester City players.
And this is why I can call the result fake. Neither team has drastically changed from last season. Chelsea even have the younger squad, and yet Chelsea won the title with ease and in many ways that was fake because nothing went wrong for Chelsea. Minor injuries to Costa the only problem with in their squad. Every player stayed fit for almost every game and many of them were in the form of their life. Let's not forget just how good Chelsea were.
Manchester City on the other hand could have challenged them had Toure and Kompany been playing at their best. Aguero was too often unfit. Form is temporay but class is permanent is the old saying and it applies here because this Manchester City squad is capable of winning the title and they have just become favourites.
However, Chelsea have a squad capable and so do Arsenal. Even Manchester United do. It's all about form and it's all about (the word I use so often) consistency! We may never know who would win if they were all as consistent as each other, the title is really won by those who can stay consistent the longest.
Right now City are in the driving seat and have proved they can keep their form up, however, they have never won the title comfortably so Chelsea will just need to remind themselves of what they are capable of and this title race will begin to really hot up.
