Derby will get promoted. You heard it here first
I am really just posting this so I can refer back to it at the end of the season. In an interview with talkSPORT Darren Bent said that new manager Paul Clement has taken a rare approach to pre-season in which he has focused on playing football over fitness exercises.
For me this is the key to success in football. It has always bewildered me that coaches feel the need to ge their players in shape with out the use of the very thing that keeps them in shape. Play more football! It is a problem right through to our grassroots where teams always feel the need to focus on players being able to run a certain distance regardless of whether they can do it in conjunction with playing football.
Clement has not managed before but he has coached the very best players in the world so he will be more than capable of developing relationships. From then on it is just important that he understands how to get the best from his players and then implement that from week to week.
This one simple statement from Darren Bent tells me Clement knows what he is doing and so, with a limited knowledge of the Championship, I am putting a marker down right now to say Derby will get promoted this season because even though he has not managed before, he will get them playing good football.
