Frustrating Gareth Bale

Here's why Gareth Bale frustrates me. Firstly, his current unkempt and overgrown hair looks ridiculous.  However, that is not the main reason, it's that sometimes when I watch him play, I think to myself, 'he isn't that good.'

We all know that Gareth Bale has a lot of strong points. He was incredible in his final year at Tottenham Hotspur and went on to prove he was quite possibly worth his price tag at Real Madrid as he scored in the game changing/winning goal in both the Copa Del Rey final and the blooming Champions League FINAL! Average players don't do this.

He racked up a decent tally for Real Madrid in his first season but was hampered by injuries and poor form last season. He has also been outshone by the likes of Neymar and Luis Suarez. Barcelona are the front runners and Gareth Bale needs to respond. We're only one game in and so far he hasn't.

He is faster than most players and arguably has a better shot but watching him in the game against Sporting Gijon, he has one major flaw, and that was his touch. His touch let him down time and time again.

Real Madrid were playing with real pace and he slowed the game down every time the ball came to his feet as he mis-controlled or took a heavy touch. This is a problem because Real Madrid are used to having the ball and they need to be good in possession. He also lacks a creative touch that can unlock a tight defence.

Part of it is that he likes to be the 'main man' we see that as his performances are so outstanding for Wales. He also shows great class against teams that allow him space to run. However, time and time again Real Madrid's undoing come from their inability to breakdown a well drilled team and if Bale doesn't improve his touch or his vision and execution for that matter, then you have got to question whether he is good enough for Real Madrid.

That last statement is a big one, but I think it's necessary to question him. It's only one game to be fair but it came off the back of a bad season. He is world class in many areas but not all of them, but he has the potential to be, and if Real Madrid want to challenge Barcelona this year, then they need Gareth Bale to step up.
