Hazard vs Ronaldo
In light of the recent remarks that Mourinho suggested Hazard is a better player than Ronaldo, lets take a look at what the difference is between the two of them.
Firstly the statement isn't as outlandish as claimed by many. Hazard has been a far more creative player for the team in general as you can see from the stats above.
He has also done far more defensive work and proved a far trickier player for the opposition to deal with on the ball. The defensive side is probably part of the Mourinho influence.
But finally we have the difference that separates the two. Ronaldo shoots roughly four times as often as him and it leads him to have almost four times as many goals. Hazard is not bad at shooting and actually has a higher shot accuracy and shot to goal ratio but in the end Ronaldo's end product if far more rewarding. I think Ronaldo is still a better player but I do agree Hazard has had a more successful season (as I mention in UEFA's Best Player Post). It's clear to see how Hazard can get on Ronaldo's level and it's not more goals, it's more shots. The stats dictate that if he does that, then the goals will come. It's important to say that getting your shot away that often isn't as easy as Ronaldo makes it look and that is where the difference lies. However, I think Hazard often fails to pull the trigger when he should and with a touch more greed perhaps this time next season people won't be so quick to dismiss a comparison between the two.
