Community Shield Prediction

Chelsea vs Arsenal takes place on Sunday the 2nd August. The two teams will be competing for the less and less coveted FA Community Shield. The FA Cup winner vs The Premier League winner.  

As usual, this is very hard. Both teams have made little movement in the transfer market although with Petre Cech Arsenal have arguably strengthened the most plus they have more players fit and available than they did last season when Chelsea were their superior. Here are the main things to consider. Arsenal have been in great form through out pre-season. Chelsea have not. Chelsea have a game in between the Community Shield and the start of the Premier League. Mourinho may well field a squad that gives him an excuse as to why his team lost. However, the other big thing to consider is that Mourinho has never lost to Wenger. Something that he quite likely won't want to start doing now. So I am going to be quite specific in my prediction. Hazard to score first. Chelsea to then play on the back foot for the majority of the game in which Arsenal will manage to get a goal. The game will go to penalties and, just to really make it a Hollywood ending, Cech will be the hero and win Arsenal the Community Shield. Mourinho will subsequently state he never wanted Cech to leave.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
